Water…Power and more…

How might these qualities appear in water signs; Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces?

After having started ‘Water Series’ looking into the first quality ‘power’ along with a few more *, now it’s time to explore these qualities through the water signs which are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. I have a few interesting chart examples but I would like to talk about them later when I finish all the qualities I have in mind.

It’s worth mentioning that there is no purpose such as to debunk or to underestimate any well known qualities of the water signs in these series. Those qualities are undeniably very important in defining them. The aim is to give a platform to some qualities which seemed to have stayed behind the scenes and could potentially enrich the meanings more when they are used. In this regard, we absolutely can’t ignore the fact Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces are moved by intuition, sixth sense, emotions or by what their inner voices whisper them to do so. And it’s not only for Sun placements; it’s for any planet placement, especially seven traditional planets, in any of these three water signs.

I had a waterfall video and I did a screenshot to obtain this photo.

I like etymology so let’s first start with the definition of ‘power’ which is as follows though the meaning is not limited to this:

“power(n.)**

c. 1300, pouer, “ability; ability to act or do; strength, vigor, might,” especially in battle; “efficacy; control, mastery, lordship, dominion, ability or right to command or control; legal power or authority; authorization; military force, an army,” from Anglo-French pouair, Old French povoir, noun use of the infinitive, “to be able,” earlier podir (9c.), from Vulgar Latin *potere (source also of Spanish poder, Italian potere), from Latin potis “powerful” (from PIE root *poti- “powerful; lord”)

And I have to say that power could be adapted to all zodiacal signs other than water signs but I feel that it needs to be emphasised more for water signs as sometimes there could be a bit of lack of trust in their power in general due to alphabet astrology and water element definitions known.

I would like to invite you to look together with me into some species of crabs, scorpions and fish with incredible powers, strength and so on while diving into the water signs in terms of the mentioned qualities. When I was making a research about them, I was completely surprised and amazed at the same time. I certainly feel that we miss a lot, especially very important details in life, in nature when we stick to the known, most available, maybe most accepted.

Crabs and Cancer

I think that I am not very informed about the animal kingdom and my knowledge about crab species was limited to hermit crab until I started going through the web for finding a crab with special power which turned out to be ‘Coconut Crab’.

It turns out that compared to other fellow crabs, coconut crabs might be quite ruthless as predators. However, more interestingly, it turns out that they could be quite strong with their two large and powerful pincers. “The squeeze of a coconut crab’s pincers can be much stronger than a human’s grip.” and “The bigger the mass of the crab, the greater the pincer force. When scaled up for a fully grown, four-kilogram coconut crab, the maximum force would be around 3,300 newtons. Coconut crabs can also lift up to about 30 kilograms, approximately the weight of a 10-year-old child. Their powerful claws and strength are essential for accessing their various food sources.”*** And the biggest and nearly only predator they face are people for whom they are the main source of food in the islands they live. It’s like the survival mode for both sides of the story!

After travelling in the world of crabs, to be specific powerful coconut crab, now it’s time forCancer.Cancer is the only sign ruled by Moon and it’s also a cardinal sign in terms of modality which all sound like basic information but we never know who reads this article and what they would like to get out of an article. I think that whatever type of chart we look into, say natal say progressed, the sign and the house the Moon is placed in might always give us more information about how that specific placement in Cancer may be interpreted or perceived as. However, let me focus on the power quality for the sake of this article’s argument. Do not get distracted Teri, do not dare. Stay focused without opening doors to other 100 different discussions:))) I believe that a lot of qualities attributed to Cancer may require ‘power’. But, first of all, Cancer is a cardinal sign and to go forward, to take the lead or initial steps, as mentioned in etymology of ‘power’, Cancer needs that “ability to act, strength”. When we think about the Chariot card, Major arcana card associated with Cancer, I like the image below which has the charioteer taking the reins in hand.

Le Chariot – The Alchemical Tarot of Marseille by Robert M. Place

However, neither power nor perseverance are limited to the cardinal modality. Cancer is also associated with nurturing, protecting as well as the past, home, family or tribe we are part of, we feel belonged to. Regardless of whatever happens or might have happened especially in the latter areas, to stand tall, to continue walking, we need power and strength maybe mostly charged by our inner voices. To give an example, let’s look at Mars in Cancer since it’s the current situation in the sky as I am writing this article. I will quote from a piece I have published in the past: “In case of Mars in Cancer, we might feel that we need to have enough courage to protect our loved ones, our family, our homeland even. It’s a more instinctive Mars rather than a rational Mars as in the case of Gemini. And when it comes to our loved ones, the way forward is really way forward, we may not see the crab going sideways, instead we may just witness it getting locked for the target without a blink.”**** These all bring us back to the qualities we have been exploring in this article. Think of a lion protecting its cubs, think of a father doing everything to make sure that he brings home food every day or a mother working from day to night to keep her children moving forward in life or an adult child who is looking after a loved one in the family reminding me of Lewis Capaldi’s very touching song ‘Stay Love’ (we can have other examples with interchangeable roles in some of the cases)…There could be times that they may all feel out of power, but then they just continue doing what they normally do as they would like to ‘resist’ the idea of not being able to protect, they might want to act like water that eventually wears any obstacle away coming its way by showing all the perseverance possible.

Scorpions and Scorpio

Before ‘diving deep’ into the type of connection between power and Scorpio, it might be worth looking into the world of scorpions. When we are thinking that the most striking qualities of scorpions are “crushing pincers” and “venomous stingers”, Smithsonian scientists found another important quality to prove strength along with durability in these arachnids. ***** What is it? What is it? Metals. Different type of metals were found both on pincers and stingers of some species. It turns out that these metals such as zinc, manganese, iron play an important role in endurance against any kind of breaking in stingers or providing extra strength in pincers while grasping prey. Quite interesting, right? When we are thinking that strength comes from one part, then we realise that there is a hidden quality that gives more power to those known qualities.

After receiving this intriguing information and putting it in our treasure boxes of knowledge, now we can invite Scorpio to the stage as the second water sign, keeping in our minds that in terms of modality, it’s a fixed sign and traditionally ruled by Mars. In modern astrology, Pluto is assigned as the co-ruler. In this regard, as Mars is a personal planet and Pluto is a generational planet, I would personally concentrate more on the sign and house Mars is placed in to be able to make some meaningful interpretation about the related placement in Scorpio. Yet again, as mentioned in Cancer, we may have this approach in natal charts as well as charts we might utilise in year-ahead interpretations such as progressed (referring to secondary progressions in this case as I don’t work with any other type of progressions). Just one short comment on fixed signs; fixed signs could be good in terms of consistency, sustainability on the bright side but when it comes to changes, alternatives, moving forward, sometimes it could be challenging for them to alter the current conditions.

Power and Scorpio…I think that I can’t think power and Scorpio separate from each other. Let’s think of some known qualities of Scorpio such as going deep to surface things which could have been hidden for a long time or famous ‘cleaning the skeletons in the closet’ or seeing through people with instincts, with that sixth sense…These all scream power to me, maybe still emotion based, inner voice based power, but it’s there. Also, to take the risk of facing vulnerability when deciding to form those deep connections…And Mars as the ruler, regardless of whichever sign it is placed in, might be saying to move forward, to take steps, to act with bravery, to fight for or fight against in a certain way. Power, power, power…

At this point, I would like to quote from a previous article on Full Moon in Scorpio in which I had explained Moon in Scorpio with my humble interpretation. Even though Moon is thought to be in ‘fall’ (me choosing all these fall placements; I love underdog what can I do), I fully trust in how they sense the emotional temperature in any place they enter. Here it comes: “I think that Moon in Scorpio is about being in need of a deep emotional attachment, dedication that might sometimes bring vulnerability with itself. It is also feeling safe because we could get to the bottom of things especially when there is something to be surfaced or a mystery to be solved. Moon is not known to be at a happy place in this fixed, water sign maybe because when we reach Hadal zone of the ocean, there might not be always nice surprises waiting for us…It needs a lot of courage to face what we find at the end of our deep search! That’s why I thought for a minute Moon in Scorpio may be the soul or inner voice of a marine archaeologist? It is not an exactly being cared for feeling of Moon when it is at home in Cancer or I know this place, I know this food, I am familiar with this environment so I am happy, I am comfortable feeling of Moon when it is exalted in Taurus. However, there is a lot of sixth sense in place, reading the room through that gut feeling…”******

Fish and Pisces

When thinking about power and surfing in the web to find connection between power and crabs, scorpions and fish, I have to admit that fish was the most challenging one since there was more than one intriguing option. Electric eels or elephantnose fish, which one? In the end, I decided to go ahead with mormyrids known as elephantnose fish which kind of remind me of a certain planetary placement in Pisces. These are electric fish and they “possess electric organs that can emit electric signals, as well as electroreceptors for “reading” these pulses…”By emitting and receiving electric signals, the elephantnose fish can navigate their native river habitats in Africa. They also use these pulses to “talk” with one another. “There are a few other types of fishes that can do what mormyrids do, but not a ton, so it’s a pretty unique way to navigate and communicate.” ******* You may think that after pincers, stingers, which place do electrical signals and communication take place on the table of ‘power’? These fish literally have natural GPS for finding their ways through the rivers and I find it pretty amazing since it sounds quite unique, helping mormyrids stand out, giving them a special power among their fellow fish.

My heart and my mind are happy because there is so much intriguing beauty and information out there to be explored by us. So, time to say ‘Hello dear Pisces! Please come and join us and sorry for keeping you waiting…’ The third and last water sign this time with mutable modality which means that we might expect some flexibility, adaptation capacity when the things start going in another direction. Like in everything, in case of too many changes, too much flexibility, there might be lack of stability, and running the risk of being taken advantage of in some cases. Pisces is traditionally ruled by Jupiter. According to modern astrology, Neptune is the co-ruler. In this regard, as Jupiter is a social planet and Neptune is a generational planet, I would personally concentrate more on the sign and house Jupiter is placed in to be able to make some meaningful interpretation about the related placement in Pisces. As indicated both in Cancer and Scorpio, we may have this approach in natal charts as well as charts we might utilise in year-ahead interpretations or even for other astrological insight purposes.

I believe that some people might have formed these prejudices against what Pisces might be really capable of mostly related to some of the generic qualities attributed to them. All my life, I have been surrounded with people with placements in Pisces, not necessarily Sun, including myself, and I have a Moon in Pisces. Even though the charts of those people in my family are not only limited to Pisces placements, each of these people were and some are still real power houses with different expressions. In general, Pisces is known with qualities such as compassionate, sensitive, emotional, empathetic, spiritual, intuitive, and sometimes dreamy but at the end of the day chooses to be present there for everyone, for all the world, for the greater good. I think that to be able to show up, maybe not every day, not every moment since there might be a need to recharge the batteries, but still to show up for the benefit of other people, putting people above yourself, caring about the ideas of other people more than yours, keeping kindness there in your heart requires a lot of presence of power whether emotional or not. It’s pure power! It’s worth mentioning that we may have the strength to come from the depth of the oceans, from the comforting arms of our dreams but the question is how fast can we return to this world might be the real deal and may show the real power we have under some circumstances. And I believe that especially with the high adaptability of Pisces, this might not be a challenging task for Pisces placements. I wanted to give an example with Mercury in Pisces but then I changed my mind and I decided to use Moon in Pisces which will reiterate some of the things I just mentioned: “I think that Moon in Pisces might be a place of compassion, the need of being there for everyone, feeling safe when the rest of the universe feels safe. But, maybe sometimes inner world getting tired of absorbing all the emotions of the universe like a sponge and wanting to take a rest, alone time just listening to its own voice without any interruption from the outer world. Dreaming, contemplating until the batteries are charged so that can start feeling for the greater good again! It’s like being powerful enough to carry the weight of the world on the shoulders saying ‘let’s be the carp’ as in Rosetsu story** while sometimes not being able to take it anymore when it is too much for the soul…And there might be a chance of flexibility, adapting when the tides don’t go the way they are supposed to…”********

At the end of the day, there is no ‘non-stop’, 24/7 type of power, strength, resilience or perseverance. That doesn’t exist…We can’t keep going; neither our souls nor our bodies can endure a journey like that. However, this doesn’t stop us from saying ‘I see the power in water, and in water signs’ loudly when we see it, when we experience it in person.

Last thing, as a precaution, I know that as a rule of thumb we use nouns for planetary expressions and adjectives for signs. In this regard, if you would like to replace power with powerful in practice, that would be completely understandable! I think that the moment we could embrace the underlying concept in this article and internalise it, which word we use, how we express it will be in our ‘power’:)))

All the best,

Let the Water series start!

Today, after having spent a few hours copying my ‘Decan walk’ articles on Substack to my website, I was thinking whether I already start writing about the first decan of Virgo or not. In the end, I decided to leave it for later and launch the water series first. As I mentioned before, I will start ‘metonic cycle’ very soon as well, just a few more detai…

Venus, Mercury and Mars...

When I looked at my calendar, seeing Venus, Mercury and Mars changing signs, one after another, I decided to write a joint piece regarding these changes in the sky. Among these three personal planets, Mercury, swift Mercury is the fastest moving planet followed by Venus and Mars. It’s worth mentioning that in our natal charts, Mercury, Venus and Mars ca…
