Tarot – Since 14th century
Yes, as the title suggests Tarot dates back to 1300s.
As I have written on my Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/tpastrotarot/, the oldest Tarot seems to go back to 14th or 15th century in Italy. And more interestingly, first Tarot cards were originated from early playing cards that were used in a game called “Tarocchi” or “Tarok”. This game may have arrived to Europe from probably the Mamluks dating back to 14th century. Very interesting and fascinating detail. (Source: The Library of Esoterica Tarot)
A long history for a divination about which some people may be thinking like ‘a bunch of cards with drawings on it, so what?’
It is not that simple, the drawings are not ordinary, they each represent a stage in human life, sometimes even indicating a real person in our lives as may happen in the case of Court cards.
For example, when we look at the ‘Fool’ image in the following link: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fool_(Tarot_card) we are talking about the 1st card that is numbered as 0 since it represents the start of a journey, which may be our life journey as well. It may also represent without taking risks we may never learn what may have happened. A powerful card for a commencement…
There is one important thing to mention; in different decks of cards sometimes different names and different meanings can be associated with the cards as well. Especially, in today’s world the number of the decks in circulation is significant, and so are the meanings and depictions.
Rider Waite is one of the most famous decks, despite being compared to more antique decks that have Kabbalah connotations, this deck is more associated with symbols of Christianity. Nevertheless, we learn a lot about the past and present to figure out the near future thanks to these cards.
As in the quote of Irvin Yalom it is true that “The only true absolute is that there are no absolutes.” BUT (I always have a but😁😁😁) under the current conditions the guidance that may come with Tarot reading is undeniable thanks to the cards’ leading and the intuition😉😉😉
See you next week, hopefully something interesting on Astrology.
Keep well, stay well
Teri
