Elements in Astrology and Tarot

Fire, earth, water and air: four elements that are vital in our lives, each for different reasons.

I will not turn this blog into a science paper, no worries. I will come to my main point just now.

But, just one question for all: Did you know that elements or ‘roots’ were first introduced by Empedocles? I personally didn’t know…It was actually in a way to contradict the ‘Eleatic Monism’ theory by Parmenides. For the ones who are asking ‘What are you talking about, Teri?’ here comes the link, the physics part is worth to read: https://t.co/vlBEhWivE6

Now, let’s go back to the subject of our title. We use elements both in Astrology and Tarot reading.

In Astrology, 12 zodiac signs are grouped in 4 groups of elements:
Fire: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Water: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Earth: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
Air: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius

Of course, how these elements are used in a natal chart is intriguing. As each of the element symbolises a character trait such as water emotions, sensitivity; earth grounding, stability and so on, it is important to look at the elemental balance in a chart and try to understand what is dominant or what is missing and how this may be improved or supported. For example, in my case I don’t have much ‘air’ in my chart, not that I suffer from analysing, understanding things in a deeper context but more about doing these not in a very free or independent form, like the air circulating around.

What about Tarot? In Tarot reading, all the Major Arcana cards and suits (Wands:Fire; Swords:Air; Cups:Water and Pentacles:Earth)are associated with the 4 elements as well. And like in nature, in the readings, we try to understand whether the cards are in harmony with each other or not in addition to the intuition and meanings of the cards. One good example may be in a relationship reading if we see that there are no Earth cards around or too many Fire or Air, we may think that this relationship may be missing stability, too much action or thoughts, but no grounding…

Just a reminder, the above comments are examples, without looking at the big picture, meaning without analysing the whole chart or looking at the other factors in the Tarot reading including Numerology (nice blog subject for another time) elements on their own may not mean a lot…

Before 2021 knocks at our doors, I will be writing one more blog.
