The Moon

The Moon, “the only natural satellite of the planet Earth and the fifth largest moon in the solar system.” https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/moons/earths-moon/overview/

This is how ‘Moon’ is defined in astronomy. However, as I always discuss everything in terms of Astrology and Tarot, I will do the same for the Moon.

But first I want to ask you to think about what Moon reminds you before starting to read the rest of the blog.

While you are thinking, let me tell you what it reminds ‘me’ regardless of what I know. Well, in a clear sky especially during the full moon period, it feels like a natural light leading us through the night, whilst blurring my mind with the tides it keeps causing. So, it may feel like a safe port on one hand, but it may cause you have some doubts on the other hand. In a way, it evokes mixed feelings for me.

I have taken this photo during the last full moon

Having said that, in a chart what does Moon represent? In simple terms, Moon has a feminine quality, may symbolise ‘Mother’ figure and it is more about our emotions, how we feel, what is secure or safe for us, and at the same time it talks about our needs. And it is the ruler of Zodiac sign Cancer. So, Moon is placed in a sign and in a house in our natal charts, but is this all about Moon in a chart interpretation?

The answer is ‘No’. The lunar phase during our birth plays an important role as well as the nodes that form the nodal axis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunar_node.  Moreover, we should not forget about the Moon orbiting the Earth and accordingly transiting 12 signs changing its phase from waning to waxing or the other way around during its journey on average in 29 days. In other words, Moon is everywhere.

In old civilisations Moon related deities carried lots of qualities. One of them was Cerridwen in Celtic tradition [Wigington, Patti. “Cerridwen: Keeper of the Cauldron.” Learn Religions, Aug. 26, 2020, http://learnreligions.com/cerridwen-keeper-of-the….]

What about Tarot? That is an interesting card. It is the last stop before the Sun, it means that before everything becomes clear as the sunshine shows all the truth and at the same time gives us hopes. In this regard, Moon card may tell about things that are in shadow, sometimes things that we can’t confess to ourselves or sometimes about deception as well. Of course, the context and where the card is placed in a reading always carries a lot of importance. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Moon_(Tarot_card)

One interesting note before I finish this Moon phase😊You all know the word ‘lunatic’ right? Do you want to know the origin? https://www.etymonline.com/word/lunatic
