Saturn and Saturn cycles

Good evening,

Saturn…

What do you think about this planet?

Doesn’t make any difference where the information comes from…Astronomy, astrology, mythology…

While you are thinking about the meaning of ‘Saturn’ for yourselves, let me quote from a blog that I had written in the past:

“What about Saturn?

Again, let us first look at it in terms of astronomy. As it is mentioned in the Nasa website: “Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second largest planet in our solar system.” And “It is not the only planet to have rings—made of chunks of ice and rock—but none are as spectacular or as complicated as Saturn’s.” https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/planets/saturn/overview/

When we look at the mythology of Saturn (Greek counterpart Cronus), Saturn is the God of agriculture and that is why he is generally depicted with the ‘scythe’ in hand. Also, there was a festival that was organised in his name, which was called ‘Saturnalia’. https://www.ancient.eu/Saturn/

In astrological terms, there are quite a few associations made with the planet Saturn. There may be a general view of seeing this planet with more negative energy which is also called ‘malefic’. However, I would not personally agree with this although I am aware of the definitions and reasons expressed why it is considered as ‘malefic’. Saturn comes with boundaries, limitations and fear which is true, but there is a great effort and perseverance there as well. It is also associated with old people and time (sometimes even with antiques). It is true that its expression sometimes may be suffocating or bit pushy, you feel like you get stuck, nowhere to go in some situations; on the other hand, it may sometimes bring the necessary discipline, organisation etc. wherever it may be placed, not only limitations…”

As I am personally going through the half-cycle of Saturn meaning that I have transiting Saturn opposition natal Saturn, I started feeling that this is a subject that needs to be studied on its own and also needs special attention during a chart interpretation session (which means that I will soon start having chart interpretations just based on Saturn return – you may always contact me about this).

To understand today, we need to understand the essence…

In terms of Saturn, this means first to study the meaning of this planet in our natal charts…How are we experiencing Saturn in our lives? In which area of life it might be more impactful (both natal house placement and the houses that it does rule)? Which symbolism of it is expressed more? And how does Saturn interact with the rest of our lives (meaning its relation with our natal chart)?

When I look back at the time that I had my first Saturn return, (by the way I am still thinking about the first astrological consultation that I received was corresponding to the time that was a few months before the start of my first Saturn return – it is an interesting note that even though we may have regular consultations, sometimes the first time that we have a chart interpretation might be happening for a reason) I think it was a really interesting period for me. Lots of lessons, ups and downs, maybe even got lost in certain aspects of my life, leaving certain people, things or habits behind (progressed chart might be always worth to look at, especially the lunar phase) and making a lot of effort about myself in many ways, too. I feel that to a certain extent, we salute to ‘old’ version of ourselves and maybe make some important decisions for the next 29 years in our lives.

However, this is life and not all the decisions, changes, efforts pay off or go in the way we want. Sometimes, we also come to a point that, despite of what was left behind and what was decided for the way ahead of us, we just come to an interval or semi-revision period which might correspond to the Saturn opposition Saturn period.

Again from my personal experience, (I am so lucky that transiting Saturn has a tendency to hit my natal position three times, back and forth, wonderful😊)) I might say that even though I am a very disciplined person, sometimes too critical about myself, I also now want to let go, take it easy and don’t get too much stuck to perfection, structure without denying who I am naturally…

Having said all these, I will be participating in the Astrological Association conference this year in October, not as a speaker, hopefully one day if I can write about something to be presented in a platform like this in the future…And last night, as I had just thought about writing this piece, I started going through the list of the talks and trying to decide which ones I attend to, voila! I just saw talks about Saturn…

Saturn is maybe calling me in some ways…

I will finish this short piece with a quote from Volume 3 – Mapping the Psyche by Clare Martin:

“…the Saturn return charts will tell us what we need to learn, to achieve and make real during the next cycle…So the question to ask is “What does Saturn demand of me for the next twenty-nine years?…”

All the best,

Teri
