Partial Lunar Eclipse (28/10/2023)
Hello everyone,
Attention attention this is an eclipse post – beware!!!
It is obviously a joke or maybe not😊))
Well, on 28/10 at 21:15 UK time there will be a partial lunar eclipse in Taurus (05°03’) that would be followed by the Full Moon in Taurus (05°08’) at 21:23 UK time.
So, why is it called a ‘partial’ lunar eclipse?
I will quote from a website (https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/partial-lunar-eclipse.html )that explains the reason very well:
“A partial lunar eclipse happens when the Earth moves between the Sun and the Full Moon, but they are not precisely aligned. Only part of the Moon’s visible surface moves into the dark part of the Earth’s shadow.”
And
“For a partial lunar eclipse to occur, two celestial events must happen at the same time:
- A Full Moon.
- The Sun, Earth, and Moon must be aligned in almost a straight line.”
Before I sat down to start writing this post, I opened like hundred tabs to have the right astronomical explanation plus the exact degrees and times and more…
I also got two of the best sources I have in astrology so that I could make some quotes from these books before I really get into the interpretation of the upcoming lunar eclipse.
I feel that it might be important to explain where we are coming from.
I will also write about a few more technical details, too.
Here comes a quote from ‘Mapping the Psyche Volume 3’ by Clare Martin:
“Solar and lunar eclipses occur at new and full Moons respectively, but only when these coincide with one of the nodes and only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are more or less on the same plane…”
And I will put some practical quotes from Bernadette Brady’s ‘The Eagle and The Lark’:
“…So, in summary we can hypothesize that the solar eclipse will bring in events that we have not consciously precipitated and the lunar eclipses will be associated with events brought about by our own thoughts or feelings…”
This definition reminded me how we tend to interpret the impact of the Major Arcana and Minor Arcana cards in tarot readings, interesting.
Having said that, let’s look at some interesting technical stuff regarding this Lunar eclipse (and the Full Moon associated with).
When we look at the family phase, we will see that this is the Full Moon of the New Moon that happened on 30/04/2022 (Taurus 10°27’) and it is worth noting that there was a partial solar eclipse that day (Taurus 10°35’). In this regard, it might be good to think about any significant events that started in that period in case that we have any placements in Taurus or Scorpio around these degrees. (We may also consider the placements in other fixed signs Leo and Aquarius)
For me, it was the period that I had applied for the Intermediate Exam (it is exactly this period) and this particular eclipse had happened in my 9th house picking up some natal placements both in the 9th and 3rd houses…Interesting…
Moreover, when we go back to 2004 (metonic cycle), this period was again an eclipse period and there was a total lunar eclipse on 28/10/2004 in Taurus (05°01’). The sky wasn’t the same but the placements picked up and the areas of lives (the houses) impacted will be the same as our natal charts don’t change during the course of life. However, please keep in mind that as we are not the same people (19 years older – we probably had lot of water under the bridge) and since the configuration of the sky is not the same, we can’t assume that same things will happen. (Always good to look at the individual natal chart) What I am trying to say is that we shouldn’t get encouraged or discouraged by the significant, important events that happened in that period.
So, what is the significance of a lunar eclipse in terms of astrology?
I will quote from a previous blog of mine that I wrote about the Lunar eclipse in November 2022:
“Full Moons generally mean that we might be reaching the maximum after starting things in New moon. It might be considered as a period in which we might say ‘ok, these worked well for me since the beginning. However, there are some of the things that didn’t serve me so it is better that I let these things go so that I may have much smoother path.’ It might be a feeling like this…
When a Lunar eclipse does happen, we might be more talking about important turning points in our lives. As we might release things, we may reach a culmination point or make a crucial decision as well…”
In terms of impact period, I think that to give an exact span of time is always tricky. It is thought that there might be an impact up to 6 months’ time, but I feel that it may differ from person to person depending on the interaction of the eclipse with our lives.
“We will have Moon in Taurus and Sun in Scorpio, opposing each other.
Without considering anything else, we do have this nourishing emotional realm not being in complete sync with the private, deep self-expression.
In a way, to find the middle way, this interaction might require us to express ourselves in a more open way, taking out what might be hidden and be less possessive and also maybe more active emotionally. So that, we may find a way to let things go that might be bothering us for a while and continue our ways more relieved.
However, it might be better to put the rest of the sky into this equation now…”

Finally Teri, we could come to the chart of the moment, well done to you!!!:)))
First of all, what we see is that as this is a ‘partial’ lunar eclipse, the contact with the nodes is quote wide in terms of orbs (nearly 11° which is in line with the technical description).
Then, we look at the interaction of the Sun (in Scorpio) and the Moon (in Taurus) with the rest of the chart and we say ‘Himmm, lots of close contacts!!!’
On thing to point out is that the dispositor of the Moon is Venus which is in Virgo and the dispositors of the Sun are Mars and Pluto which are in Scorpio and Capricorn respectively.
And the Sun is conjunct (not very tight) Mercury and Mars (sometimes we might hurt worse with our words or we might start an in depth action with our intense communication…The level of hurt or intensity are open to discussion…And all this might be connected to our intuitive, highly charged self-expression…Lot of solid power…)
The Sun (in Scorpio) will be opposing the Jupiter(Rx) (in Taurus), trining the Saturn (Rx) (in Pisces), all slowed than, not fully expressed planets (important in the interpretation) and squaring Pluto with a quote wide orb (Pluto is squaring the Nodal axis as it has been doing so lately). It feels like as we are trying to dig things out, put them out, which might feel like a slap in the face in some situations and certain area of our lives (it is like the energy , the words and us bubbling somewhere underground and getting ready to burst out everything), in another part of our lives we might be emotionally grounded, internalising things slowly and being in need of some level of serenity, and our reconsideration of expansion, growth in a more stable level might support our emotional expressions…
So, there is a slap in the face energy opposing a much calmer, grounded energy…
There should be a way to achieve a consensus…To find a balance which the Full Moon and also the Lunar eclipse require from us…To release some of the impacts that do not serve us and embrace the ones that may support us…
Just a small bracket, “If we think that, both Scorpio and Taurus are fixed signs, to let go of things might not be the easiest act and most natural in this context. However, with their positions and interactions with the rest of the sky, to move forward leaving some of the things behind might be the best option to minimise the polarisation even though there might not be a promise of being‘ pain free’…”
Here, Venus in Virgo, those practical values might be crucial…As much as reining especially that intense energy coming through Mars in Scorpio. And the dissociate T-square (in which the Pluto is the Apex planet) might be playing like a pull-push effect while the realistic determination brought to the table by Pluto might be very important as well especially since Pluto is one of dispositors of the Sun and still quite in close contact with the Nodes, too.
Having said that, if you have any Taurus and Scorpio placements around the above-mentioned Lunar eclipse degrees (other fixed signs Leo and Aquarius might be taken into consideration) these placements might be impacted the most by this eclipse. And depending on where Taurus and Scorpio are placed in our natal charts, those areas of life will be affected by this event.
I wish everyone a good eclipse that will be the end of this eclipse period.
All the best,
Teri
