Mercury Retrograde
Mercury retrograde in astrology is something that the people fear like they are afraid of a natural disaster, isn’t it? Thinking that it happens 3 times a year on average for 22 days, what an adrenaline rush we go through😊 each time.
I decided to write about this subject this week, as on the 30th of January Mercury will start its retrograde in the sign of Aquarius.
Before writing about the possible effects of the forth coming Mercury retrograde, without getting into much technical detail, let me try to explain what a retrograde means and what Mercury retro means in general.
To be able to explain this, we must understand that astrology is based on ‘geocentric’ theory. This means that when making interpretations, astrologers follow the movements of the planets, stars, asteroids in short celestial bodies according to how they are seen from the Earth. That is why in a natal chart, east-west, south-north change places and the order of the signs will be in counter-clockwise starting from the Ascendant (rising) sign.
So, let us see what a retrograde means? When we look from the Earth, it looks like as if – there is no real physical movement in reality- a planet is moving backwards. This backwards movement happens since the planets seem to slow down, come to a halt, and then move backwards for a while until going back into the direct path. Communication, ideas, swift action, short trips, dexterity, trade…And it is the ruler planet of Zodiac signs Gemini and Virgo…”
When Mercury is in retrograde in general, we may expect some delays in communication, short travels, or transportation in addition to some misunderstandings or errors in dialogues as well.
But what happens when it goes back in the sign of Aquarius? Aquarius may be associated with technology, internet and electricity thanks to its co-ruler Uranus. In this regard, as we may expect some problems in communication, there may be shortfalls in technology as well. It may be good to refrain from making in investment in new technological gadgets. However, it is important to remember that during the retrograde period, it is true that we stop and try to review what we have done so far. In this regard, before going forward, it may be a good time to go through our ideas and creations and abandon the unnecessary ones to have a clear path.
Please always keep in mind that, these are only possibilities, nothing is set in stone and also remember to look where Aquarius is in your natal chart to understand which area of your life may be affected with this retro of Mercury. Nevertheless, do not put the blame on everything on my dear Mercury for everything that may not go right in this period😊
