Numerology – Tarot Readings (Part 1)

I made this confession before, but yet again when I sat in front of the computer I had no idea about what I was going to write today. My sister was telling me to investigate Joe Biden’s natal chart while my husband was insisting on MC (Medium Coeli-Midheaven) in the charts.

However, I said ‘no’ since these may not be that interesting for everyone, as I will end up with lots of technical details and then I realised that it has been some time since I wrote directly about Tarot. So, here I am asking ‘Do you know how numerology is used in Tarot readings?’

But before answering that, let’s see what numerology means: “Numerology is any belief in the divine or mystical relationship between a number and one or more coinciding events. It is also the study of the numerical value of the letters in words, names, and ideas.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numerology

When we talk about Numerology in Tarot, generally the Pythagorean numerology (as it is known to be the basis for the Western numerology) is used. According to Pythagoras, ‘every number has its own characteristics’. Even though the focus is based on the single digit numbers from 1 to 9, the numbers from 11 to 22 are equally important since they were thought to be related to Karma. In Tarot reading, numerology can be used for different purposes. (At this point, the writer notices once again, as it is her in Pluto, it will be hard for her to get out of this subject. So, stay tune for a few weeks😊)

I will start with the easiest and most fun one, the birth and shadow cards. (The other weeks will be fun no worries, stay safe and keep reading my blogs😊)

These 2 cards can give information about the characters of the questioners or how they respond to different events in their lives.
The calculation is simple: We add our full birth date numbers until we end up with a single digit number from 1 to 9 (corresponding this number to the same numbered card in Major Arcana) which will be our birth Tarot card. When we add 9 to this number, it will be our birth Shadow card.
I will try to explain with an example and give the definitions for the Major Arcana cards that come out in terms of characteristics. (I will just write down a random birth date, not specifically belonging to someone that I know in real life)

Example birth and shadow card calculation:
Name: NZ
Birth date: 07/06/1956
0+7+0+6+1+9+5+6=34=3+4=7
And 7+9=16
7 is the Chariot in the Major Arcana.
And the shadow card will be number 16 which is the Tower.

Chariot may show that when you deal with the situations in your life, you try to keep your emotions under control, not really hiding them but more like not trying to reflect them to the other side and to the situation that you are dealing with. This kind of approach may be helping you to achieve things and keep things under control in terms of power. It is like acting as the charioteer of your life, in line with Plato’s philosophy, you try to reason while trying to keep your wills and appetites under control, not letting them to carry you away from your ambitions.

On the other hand, looking at the Tower we may see that there may be times that you may lose the control of the Chariot meaning that maybe your feelings may weigh more and you may end up making wrong decisions which may lead things tumble down as depicted in the card. However, falls may make you stronger with the lessons learnt, after a shake you may get back on your feet and start from scratch taking the control of the chariot.

More elements from the Numerology may be added to these definitions based on the number being odd or even and what the numbers mean individually. Even cards’ associations with Zodiac signs and planets may be included to give a more elaborate explanation. However, I will not get into these details not to bore you with too much information.

In the following weeks, I will try to write about the Numerology and letters associations and how they may be used in a reading. I will also use an example reading in which Associating card calculation is made and how it is used to give more information about the reading.
