Numerology – Part 2

Last week we talked about Tarot birth and shadow cards. For the ones who missed it or want to refresh their memories, here is the link: https://amethystastrotarot.com/?p=647

This week, I will investigate Numerology and letter associations.

There are 2 types of letters-based numbers may be used. One is using the full name of the questioner; we may find information about the characteristics of this person and try to relate with the context of the reading. For this calculation, there are 2 systems used. One is based on Pythagorean numerology, the other is the ancient Babylonian numerology Chaldean. In Pythagorean one, the letters are associated with the numbers from 1 to 9 such as A is 1, I is 9 and then we go back to the beginning J is 1 until the last letter of the alphabet. And in this method, as the name changes for some reason, the destiny is believed to change, so the person may get a new number with the alteration. On the other hand, in Chaldean method, the numbers from 1 to 8 are used since 9 is thought to be symbolising infinity and it is considered as a sacred number. In this method, the name that you are known best with is used, it may be even a nickname and calculation is done accordingly. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numerology

How does it work in the Tarot reading? It may work in two ways, either the questioner may provide us with a name that we may associate with a Major arcana card or the cards that we open have numbers that correspond to some letters and these may give clues about the initials of an individual, place or even an object depending on the context. It is only important that the letter information should not be used if we are not 100% sure about it, in the name of not making a cold reading and not to guide the questioner to a wrong direction. This will not be ethical.

Let’s see this one with an example: (This was the reading I did for understanding how 2021 could have started https://amethystastrotarot.com/?p=608)

So, in the main reading cards we have 7,1 and 10. The total is 10+7+1=18=1+8=9

In the alphabet, letter 9 corresponds to I.

Individually 7=G, 1=A, 10=A

I did not include the Shadow card (the card at the bottom of the deck which is the 6 of Pentacles) since it is not directly part of the numerology of the main reading.

If we look at these all, letters do not mean much to us for really associating something substantial. Only if we look at number 9, which was the Hermit and meant reflecting upon as the associating card, with letter I, may be used to make a connection with ‘Isolation’ since after mid-January serious precautions were taken regarding the pandemic in line with isolation in different versions, thanks to lockdowns across the continent!

Or when we put all the letters together, we may have GAIA (did you ever hear about her in mythology?) “In the creation myth, Chaos came before everything else. He was made of Void, Mass and Darkness in confusion; and then earth in the form of Gaea (Gaia)-Mother Earth came into existence.” Yes, we have been experiencing chaos for a long time and waiting for a rebirth, restart in our lives when this chaos finishes. As I mentioned before, regarding this reading, there is more clue that we can relate to and in another reading a card that may symbolise a real person and its corresponding letter may also lead us to a right alley. However, does it always happen? No.

I personally do not like using letter method so much, as I believe that we may really need to have a good ground for relating and you may consider my example just as an explanation rather than something written on stone😊 (I just used the letter and number associations to explain how it works in Tarot reading)

By the way, how are we coping with Mercury in retro in Aquarius? Soon, the planet of communication will go into direct motion, a bit of more patience.
