Chiron – Good hearted centaur / Part 1

Not sure if you have heard about Chiron. Personally, I knew about its existence before I had started studying astrology. However, I had no idea what the origins were or what it meant in a natal chart.

Only thing I can tell is that the day I got introduced to this centaur, I was completely fascinated with the myth and its place in the sky in addition to what it may represent in our natal charts.

I generally like making an introduction in terms of astronomy – so, let’s not break this rule and see what Nasa says about Chiron which was discovered in 1977: “It looks like a cometary body as well as an asteroid that it has been “designated Centaur, after the race of half-man/half-horse beings from Greek mythology, in recognition of its dual comet/asteroid nature.” https://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/planetary/chiron.htm

“Chiron is a Saturn–Uranus object” since “ it is orbitin the Sun between Saturn and Uranus.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2060_Chiron

What about the mythology? He was the wisest centaur in Greek mythology and this half horse half human figure was very sophisticated compared to other ‘savage’ centaurs. Also, he was known to be the tutor for some important personalities such as Achilles and Hercules. In a way, with his physical appearance he was an outcast, on the other hand this did not stop him, as he educated himself, he became a tutor for others. Although he was immortal, he still died. How? The details and rest of the story of Chiron is as follows: https://www.theoi.com/Georgikos/KentaurosKheiron.html

Back to astrology – I will try to give a bit of background information about what Chiron may mean in our natal charts, based on my studies to date (and the books I have read, especially Sasportas’s ‘The Twelve Houses’). I will be giving an example with a sign and house placement next week. (Chiron in Aries example may catch the attention of followers who were born between 1968 and 1977; in addition I will add the 7th house)

As mentioned, it is important to remember that Chiron is placed between Saturn and Uranus. What does this mean? This means that in Chiron we may see the traits from both Saturn (fears, boundaries, structure) and Uranus (originality, new innovative ideas). In a way, Chiron may be serving like a ‘junction’. (I will not even be getting into a brainstorming here saying that the mentioned 2 planets are Aquarius’s co-rulers but it may be a good base for a discussion in another blog…)

In addition to this, thinking of Chiron being rejected by his own mother in the myth, this may show up in our charts, the area of life where we may be carrying wounds or traces of rejection. (Sasportas)

Moreover, the physical appearance of Chiron, being different from others may appear in the charts in an area of life that the way that we look may appear as a problem. (Sasportas)

However, we should keep in mind that wounds, the feeling of being ‘outcast’ can be translated into better things for our lives and other people’s lives, as happened in the case of Chiron, by learning, developing ourselves and helping other people to improve, heal their wounds and turn into better human beings. I think the wisdom of Chiron is a ‘key’ factor and may help us to open a new world or if not reacted in the right way, to imprison ourselves in a deep well.

I especially mentioned ‘key’ since the symbol (‘glyph’ in astrological jargon) of Chiron that is a combination of letters K and O actually looks like a key. In this regard, I would like to ask you all to think of the functions of a key and what importance it may carry in our lives.

Next week, in addition to the example in our charts, I may come up with some more additional information both about Chiron and Aries/7th house to make sure that the example is relevant for most of you.

Sometimes things that may not strike us as especially important at first glance, later may surprise us and may start carrying an importance in our lives, as Chiron does so in our charts.

I hope that you have all enjoyed Chiron so far.
